What type of coffee beans do you use?
1. Arabica Bean – This species of bean tend to have a sweeter, softer taste, with tone of fruit and berries, as well as a strong coffee aroma. Their acidity is higher with a winey taste.
2. Robusta Bean – Robusta has a stronger and harsher taste, more bitter, with a grain-like overtone and peanutty aftertaste. It is well known for its earthy flavors, full bodied and strong coffee taste. It contains twice as much caffeine than the Arabica bean.
Where are your coffee beans imported from?
We source our coffee beans under stringent requirements from most of the major coffee producers in the world. This includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Colombia - Colombian coffee powder has bright acidity after roasted, and at the same time is heavy in body and is intensely aromatic. The classic Colombian profile—as with other better-quality coffees from Peru, Kenya, Costa Rica, etc—brings together a mellow acidity and a strong caramel sweetness, perhaps with a nutty undertone. Colombian coffee bean is well known for its sweet and medium-bodied, they have the most recognizable coffee flavor to most of the North Americans.
2. Brazil - Brazilian coffee bean is nutty, sweet, low in acidity and develops exceptional bittersweet and chocolate roast tastes. Brazil coffee bean is generally roasted and sold as a single-origin coffee. It is common in espresso, in high-end blends and in commercial coffees, and the coffees tend to linger a bit in the mouth, with a less clean aftertaste than other South American regions' bean.
3. Vietnam - Vietnam is the second-largest producer of coffee in the world. Vietnamese coffee is grown in basaltic (ancient volcanic) soil, with one of the world's most optimal climates. It has sweet, nutty and vanilla tastes preserved in the natural beans, and produces a smooth, dark palate that is stronger but less bitter than typical coffee.
What are the benefits of firewood roasting compared to electric roasters?
While conventional electric roasters may be able to produce a much more uniform blend in terms of colour and flavour of the beans, the traditional method of firewood roasting is able to produce beans with gentled acidity without a reduction in the flavor and aroma of the coffee. In short, there are pros and cons to each method of roasting but we favour the traditional method due to our strong emphasis in aroma and flavour over uniformity.
What type of cocoa powder do you use?
Criollo beans, also known as ―Queen of Cacao for its high quality but low in productivity, is considered to be the finest cacao in the world. It is best known for their sweet aroma, well-balanced delicate taste and complex flavour notes. This bean when complemented with Forastero beans from Ivory Coast, Africa will give a full and strong monochromatic chocolate flavour with classic and bitter profile.
Our chocolate drink uses a good balances of chocolate powder from both Sulawesi, Indonesia that cultivate Criollo beans and Ivory Coast, Africa that mainly produce Forastero beans. This beautiful precious blend accentuate a rich and decadent flavour with prime cocoa taste for you to savour it till the very last drop.
Does your product contain artificial flavouring?
No. We have never and will never add artificial flavouring to any of our products be it coffee and non-coffee beverages or health care products because it can never replace the real deal.
Are your products tested and certified?
Definitely, as a food and beverage manufacturer, it is our responsibility to ensure that our products are safe for consumption. Our factories are regularly inspected and monitored with appropriate certification by the relevant authorities which includes HACCP, GMP, ISO 22000 and Halal status. This is testament to our high work ethics and adherence to industry standards.
Why are you not entering the market with your own brand?
We have been in the OEM business for close to 70 years without taking on a brand of our own. This is because we highly believe in the specialization of task. While we are a veteran in the manufacturing field, we are still very much a novice when it comes to marketing our products. Therefore, we decide to stick to what we know and do best.
Additionally, we very much treasure the long-term relationship and friendship built throughout the decades with our faithful customers that have stuck with us through thick and thin. It would be unfair to them and unethical of us to enter the retail market with a sizable advantage in terms of costing which allows us to undercut them in terms of price. Furthermore, it would be a breach of trust as we have had access to confidential information regarding their products manufactured and supplied by us.
What is your production capacity?
At present, we are able to produce up to 15-20 20 foot containers of coffee and healthcare products a month per shift. Meanwhile, our honey's production is dependent on the season's harvest as it is a wholly natural product.
Do you provide customization services to cater to customers' requirements?
Yes. We are able to create customized blends based on certain customers' specific tastes and requirements. This is made possible by our excellent R&D and manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to delicately fine-tune the ratio of each individual components in the blend to our customers' satisfaction.
How does Tualang Honey compare to Manuka Honey?
Tualang Honey shares some similar properties and biochemical characteristics with the much-researched Manuka Honey (New Zealand /or Australian monofloral honey). Distinct differences include higher phenolics, flavonoids, and HMF in Tualang Honey compared to Manuka Honey. Besides that, Tualang Honey is more effective than Manuka Honey against some gram-negative bacterial strains in burn wounds.
What are the characteristics of your honey?
Royal Jelly Premium Honey
The royal jelly honey, the creamy white honey or pale yellowish honey is also known as milk of bees. It is food for bees’ larvae and queen bee. It contains 10-hydroxy decenoic acid which gives the sour taste which can inhibit bacterial growth. It has high concentration of vitamins B5, B6, and amino acids and is believed to be a potent antioxidant. It highly promotes tissue growth, muscle and cell regeneration. In animals, royal jelly seems to have some activity against tumours and the development of “hardening of the arteries.” In the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine (March, 2014) the research findings indicate the ability of royal jelly to help maintain blood sugar levels while controlling oxidative stress. The report suggests that it may be a natural alternative for preventing and even reversing Type 2 diabetes
It not only nourishes the body internally but rejuvenates externally as well. Royal jelly honey is associated with healthier skin, hair and youthful appearance. Rich in estradiol, a major estrogen functioning as the primary female sex hormone, it is commonly known to be effective in treating women who have problems with their menstruation such as abnormal cycle, pain, discomfort, and fatigue. However breast cancer patients are advised against consuming it due to the interactive effects of estrogen.
Dark Elixir Premium Honey
Comes from the same hive as the royal jelly honey but it is food for the worker bees. It has superior antioxidant properties due to its high content of phenolic acid and flavonoid. University Of Illinois At Urbana-Champaign stated "Dark Honey Has More Illness-Fighting Agents than Light Honey." ScienceDaily, 8 July 1998. In an article published in the Journal of Apicultural Research, the researchers say darker honey has less water and more antioxidants than light-colored honey.
A study at the Hospital das Clinicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil published in November of 2012 concluded that dark tualang honey built trabecular bone in laboratory rats better than supplemental calcium hence suitable alternative use for treatment of osteoporosis The current main treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis is estrogen replacement therapy (ERT). Despite its effectiveness, ERT, can cause many adverse effects. Therefore, alternative treatment that is rich in antioxidant and can exert an anti-inflammatory effect can be given to replace the conventional ERT. Tualang honey is one of the best options as it contains antioxidant and exerts anti-inflammatory effect. This can act as a free radical scavenger, reducing the oxidative stress level and inhibit proinflammatory cytokine. This will result in survival of osteoblasts, reduced osteoclastogenic activity, and resulting in reduce bone loss. Hence, Tualang honey can be used as an alternative treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis with minimal side effects. It was shown to prevent uterine atrophy, vaginal epithelium atrophy, promote increased bone density and suppress the increased of body weight seen in menopausal state.
Honey reduces oxidative stress. Free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been implicated in contributing to the processes of aging and disease. Humans protect themselves from these damaging compounds, in part, by absorbing antioxidants from high-antioxidant foods. Dark honey with high phenolic antioxidants can reduce the effects of aging. The regular use of honey as a sweetener in common foods could result in an enhanced antioxidant defense system in healthy adults.
It is bold in flavor and most rich in iron. Dark honey works well as sweetener on oatmeal or in breads.
Golden Elixir Premium Honey
Golden premium honey contains natural antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Amino acids found in honey are nature's building blocks of protein. This golden pleasure also contains calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, copper, chromium, manganese, and selenium. Premium Rock Honey
Rock Honey also known as Madu Batu is harvested right from the caves of Pahang state. Rock Honey is difficult to harvest as our harvesters have to hang from ropes in order to harvest the hives off these dangerous cave walls.
Rock Honey is rich in texture and non-runny in nature, being more leaned towards a jelly like substance, hence gaining the name “Rock Honey, a.k.a Madu Batu”. The reason being for the jelly like state of the honey is due to the high density of honey and the low level of moisture, often due to the bees fanning their wings, hence evaporating water content.
The bees that form the hives along these cave walls are called Trigona Bees. Trigona Bees are stingless bees that usually nest in hollow trunk, underground cavities or rock crevices in caves. The Rock Honey is collected from hives on the caves wall produced by this stingless bees i.e. Trigona Bees.
This honey is poly floral which is high in nutrient benefits. And it also found to overcome bacteria growth with a very strong growth inhibitory characteristic known as MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) which is defined as the lowest concentration of honey that prevents at least 99% of bacterial growth.
Another known benefit is the MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) factor which is defined as the lowest concentration of honey required to kill at least 99% of the bacteria.
